Ireland's qualification
for the World Cup finals in Korea/Japan 2002 is
the prompt for Tom Donovan's latest release - an
Irish football song entitled Homeland of the
Brave. It will be on sale in record stores throughout
Ireland for the duration of the World Cup finals.
This original rock song uses sing-along verse in
a way that cries out for chanting on the terraces.
The title is a catch phrase that gives expression
to national pride rooted in history and heritage.
Track 2 - Bravehearts for Glasgow Celtic
was recorded by Tom in May 2000 when he was in Dublin
to record his album Barbarian.
At that time, Glasgow Celtic were finishing a poor
season in the Scottish Premier Division. The opening
track on the Barbarian album, Bravehearts
Trip to Scotland was so close to an old
Glasgow Celtic motto that Tom re-worked the chorus
into Bravehearts - hold fast for Glasgow Celtic.
The following season Celtic won the Scottish Championship
and have now just repeated again this year. Because
of widespread support in Ireland for Glasgow Celtic,
this song was added to the single as a bonus track.
Tracks 3 and 4 started
out as fun re-mixes by The
Anorak Adventure. Their comic vocal overdubs
include phrases like -
What about the opposition?
- You gotta put them under pressure - They're
a good side - not a great side - Can't score if
they don't have the ball.
The mixes turned out so well it
was decided to add them as extra bonus tracks on
the CD. However, it now appears these tracks are
set to take on a life of their own. Track 4 has
all the makings of a club hit in the run up to the
World Cup while the comic relief of the edited version
(track 3) has wide radio appeal.
