MP3 Review
The
Celtic Compilation
is now almost a mandatory element in the catalogue of
most serious records labels around the world. As a supplier
of tracks for many of these compilations, it was only
a matter of time before Owl produced one for their own
catalogue.
Windows
to a Celtic Heart features some of the tracks and
artists which have already been included on major international
compilations in such company as Moby, Faithless, Sting,
Sarah Brightman, Paul Hardcastle, Art of Noise, Era, Ry
Cooder, Clannad, Mike Oldfield, Enigma, Deep Forest and
many of the world's finest film score composers including
Vangelis and Ennio Morricone.
This
17 track (64 minute) album includes the work of Dagda,
Tom Donovan, Pauline Glackin, Sharon Murphy, Cruiskeen,
Orla Maher, Reg Keating and Úna ni Bhaoighill.
Steering away from the traditional / folk format which
is tha staple diet of Celtic compilations, Windows
to a Celtic Heart is to be commended for seeking out
its own path between Celtic ambient and new age with a
generous sprinkling of light pop. To the fore in this
catagory are the two tracks by Sharon Murphy, Not
like me and Sonnets
in the wind, and the almost pop/dance track
Spirits
of Ages
Windows to a Celtic Heart
is a window to all that is best in the new wave of contemporary
Celtic sounds and voices.
