CELTIC
ROCK
Owl Records roster of artists, though hardly household
names, possess an enthusiasm and energy major labels would
kill for. "Celtic Rock", a collection of well known ballads,
traditional songs and original compositions in a folk
vein is an exciting energy packed ride. Tom Donovan features
extensively with the Dublin Town Buskers on "Dirty Old
Town" and "Ride On", both given powerful rock based readings.
Jean Dixon's is a voice I'd like to hear more of if "Route
609" is any indication of her vocal talents. Tom Donovan's
solo recording "Town She Used To Call Home" is outstanding
along with Brendan Moriarty's boisterous "Old Woman From
Wexford". "Celtic Rock" plays heavily on the rock and
role end of the Celtic spectrum but does it with style.
